MICRO TEACHING REFLECTION
For the final two weeks of the LIT102 course, the class was asked to create mini lessons in groups where the writing process is used in any piece of writing. Each group was assigned a step to the writing process . The first group taught the pre-writing stage. The first group was also blessed with the opportunity to choose the writing genre and the topic for the piece. Each group was to continue the teaching from where the previous group stopped. The genre chosen was that of descriptive writing and the topic selected centred around the Christmas theme. The title of the piece was "A christmas Party to Remember". The theme seemed appropriate because it coincides with the season that is approaching. The Pixies were also impress with the first group for using a Cristmas tree which was divided in five parts to plan for the piece of writing. Each section of the Christmas tree represented the questions pertaining to the five senses to help write a good descriptive piece.
The lessons on the other hand, were fun, engaging and served as a reinforcement of the writing process to us the students. The student teachers modeled engaging ways of teaching with the writing process, poems were used, songs were used and strategies such as the"Gradual Release of Responsibility Model" was used . The Pixies could vividly see future Language Arts teachers evolving to effective Language Arts teachers. After each micro teaching, the balance of the class provided feedback .
Although the different teachings on the writing process were mini lessons, they were quite informative and therefore, will definitely be used when we, the Pixies return to our individual schools.

ReplyDeletewith this lesson i rtealized that at times as teachers we may have missed out on some things, teaching students yet either moving too fast or giving them too much to handle. I saw how each stage of the writing process is important to the students and teacher.
ReplyDeleteI must agree with the point that the lessons were very informative it gave us a feel of what we must expect when we are in the classroom. the writing is a very challenging task from my perspective. we must find innovative ways to keep the student intrigued and better their writing at the same time. ReplyDeleteIndeed, I thoroughly enjoyed each mini lesson as they all provided me with many learning experiences. Teaching writing requires innovative strategies and most importantly to have students write on topics which they can relate to. The Christmas theme was an excellent idea as students were definitely able to relate to it. It further supports how students learn best as Ausubel believed that if students were given topics or information that were connected or had some relation to their prior knowledge or experiences, then a greater understanding of writing would be the result. Therefore, I look forward to executing many mini lessons with my students but even more so to have them write about topics which they have sufficient knowledge of.

Having been given the opportunity to teach the writing process through mini lessons was very informative as I got opportunity to see the many best practices and strategies come alive in the classroom. At first I did not like the topic of the Christmas theme but then I noticed it was not bad at all and we were all able to work with it.
ReplyDeleteI gain a lot of ideas from the Micro mini teaching, I agree with everyone on this.The Prewriting with the Christmas theme introduce every stages of the Writing process. I looked forward to use this when I get into actual part of teaching plus with my son.
